Alabaster is a natural material. Its beauty comes from characteristics that cannot—and should not—be made perfectly uniform.
Veining may move gently through one piece and dramatically through another. Color can shift from translucent cream to warm amber, with mineral bands, cloudy formations, and natural variations appearing throughout the stone.
When incorporated into lighting, those differences become even more expressive. Illumination reveals layers and patterns that may appear considerably quieter when the stone is unlit.

Amber Alabaster
Warm. Atmospheric. Deeply Luminous.
Amber alabaster brings the strongest overall warmth to a fixture. When illuminated, its natural golden and honeyed tones become more pronounced, producing an atmosphere that can range from softly warm to richly dramatic depending on the individual stone.
Natural bands, clouds, and tonal transitions may be visible throughout each shade. Some pieces will appear relatively quiet; others may reveal considerably more geological movement.
Amber works especially well when the intent is to introduce warmth against dark ironwork, aged finishes, natural woods, stone surfaces, and interiors where the lighting itself should contribute to the atmosphere of the room.

White Alabaster
Quiet. Luminous. Naturally Varied.
White alabaster offers the lightest overall expression of the four selections.
Its appearance can range from creamy white to softly translucent ivory, often with subtle bands, clouds, or mineral movement appearing within the stone. Illumination reveals depth that may not be immediately visible when the material is unlit.
White alabaster is particularly effective when the fixture should retain the visual presence of natural stone without introducing substantial amber coloration. Against darker ironwork, the contrast can be especially architectural.
It should not, however, be interpreted as a manufactured pure-white material. Natural variation remains part of its character.
Character: Lightest and most restrained
Veining: Generally quieter, but naturally variable
When illuminated: Soft ivory-to-white translucency

Amber with Red Veining Alabaster
Expressive. Warm. Individually Marked.
Amber with Red Veining is the most visually expressive of Ashore Lighting’s alabaster selections.
Warm amber stone is crossed by naturally occurring bands and mineral formations that may introduce rust, reddish, brown, or deeper tonal movement. When illuminated, these markings can become significantly more visible.
Because the veining is created by nature rather than printed or applied, its placement, thickness, direction, and intensity will differ from one piece to another.
For interiors where natural stone is intended to become a focal material rather than a quiet diffuser of light, Amber with Red Veining can be particularly compelling.

Veining: More pronounced natural mineral movement
When illuminated: Amber glow with stronger visible banding

White with Amber Veining Alabaster
Light Stone with Warmer Natural Movement.
White with Amber Veining combines a lighter overall stone ground with warmer bands and mineral movement.
It occupies an interesting middle ground between White and Amber: the fixture retains a lighter appearance overall, while naturally occurring amber-colored veining introduces greater visual depth.
When illuminated, those warmer areas may become more apparent and create layered movement throughout the shade.
This selection is particularly useful when the design calls for natural character and visible veining without the overall warmth of full Amber alabaster.

Every block of natural stone develops differently.
As a result, individual shades may differ in:

Even several alabaster shades installed on the same fixture should not be expected to look identical.

Alabaster Changes with Light
Alabaster should be evaluated both illuminated and unlit.
When the fixture is off, the stone may appear more opaque and its veining more subdued. Once illuminated, internal layers, mineral bands, tonal differences, and translucent areas can become considerably more apparent.
The bulb temperature, light output, shade thickness, and natural characteristics of the individual stone can all influence the final appearance.
For most decorative applications, warm-white illumination complements the natural warmth of alabaster particularly well.
